Cabinetry Collaboration Brings European Charm to Kitchen

While KSI designers typically work directly with homeowners on their kitchen and bath design projects, we also love partnering with interior designers - and they love partnering with us! We make it easy for interior designers to create beautiful and functional spaces for their clients by offering our cabinetry knowledge and design expertise to compliment their skillset.  When Interior Designer Shannon Lawrason came to KSI to select cabinetry for her new build home, I knew our collaboration would result in a truly breathtaking kitchen!

As a client and an Interior Designer, Shannon had a vision from the beginning: Timeless beauty with a touch of classic elements. Everything involved in the mixture of textures – hardware selection, tile selections, marble, cabinetry materials – was fundamental to the execution of the design intent.

"My design concept was a timeless kitchen with European charm, focusing on an engaging mix of materials, classic millwork, and cabinetry designed to resemble built-in furniture," says Shannon.

To create the classic feel that Shannon was going for, we were meticulous in our review of every detail - from the crown to the base moldings and furniture toe kicks, and everything in between. "There's so much to love in the details of this kitchen," notes Shannon.  "Beyond just mixing two different cabinet colors and door styles, we applied extra molding detail to the white cabinets, and the white drawer base cabinets sit proud from rift cut oak cabinets to add extra dimension and interest."

Especially when working with an interior designer, beauty is just as important as functionality.  We separated the microwave area from the main part of the perimeter design with a wall and white cabinetry, allowing us to create balance with the island and symmetry on the range wall with matching oak cabinetry.

With a large family, it was important to create an environment that would be perfect for preparing meals as well as entertaining.  We created a large island for food prep, with the sink facing the room to keep an inviting atmosphere for the home chef. Ample floor-to-ceiling cabinetry on the perimeter wall provides organizational space for all the critical cookware and appliances.

What I'm most proud of with this collaboration is the timeless mixture of textures, colors, and thoughtful details that we were able to achieve.  The space is inviting, with a light and airy feel. It was truly a pleasure to work with Shannon to bring her home kitchen to life!
