Bringing a Home to Life: A Stunning Kitchen, Laundry, and Bath Transformation

There’s nothing more rewarding than helping a homeowner transform their space into something that truly feels like home. In my most recent project, I had the pleasure of redesigning a kitchen, laundry room, and powder bath while updating the flooring throughout the first floor. The goal? To create a warm, inviting space filled with natural light, unique design elements, and a cohesive flow that honored the character of the home. Let’s take a look at how we made this vision a reality!

Unknown-1

Creating an Open, Homey Space

When the client first approached me, they were looking to remodel the kitchen, laundry, and powder room while enhancing the overall feel of their home. We focused on opening up the space by adjusting walls and windows to allow more natural light. By keeping key architectural features and thoughtfully integrating new design elements, we ensured the space remained true to the home’s original character while bringing in fresh, modern touches.

Blending Brick, Beams, and Mixed Materials

A standout feature of the kitchen was the existing brick wall with a fireplace, which we knew we wanted to keep. To complement this, we wrapped the existing ceiling beams with natural wood, adding warmth and continuity. We also played with a mix of black, gold, and creamy tones throughout the space, ensuring a balance between bold accents and soft, inviting neutrals.

Mix of inset and full-overlay cabinetry creates a furniture-like feel

One of my favorite elements was the mix of cabinetry styles. We used a mix of inset and full overlay cabinetry to create a furniture-like feel, especially with the wood finish of the island and coffee bar. The kitchen perimeter featured light and airy shaker-style cabinets with slab-front top drawers for a sophisticated look with just enough detail.

Optimizing Space with Thoughtful Layout Adjustments

A major challenge was rethinking the kitchen’s spatial layout. Originally, a small window sat near the china cabinet area, but we removed it to make room for statement cabinetry. We also expanded the sink and added a perfectly sized island that provided seating without overwhelming the space.

To create a more functional dining and entertaining area, we adjusted the depth of the perimeter cabinets, making room for stools and incorporating glass doors to give the buffet a China cabinet-inspired look.

Seamless Flooring & Elegant Transitions

Previously, the home had slate tile flooring, which felt disconnected from the new design vision. We replaced it with Wolf Point Oak from the Kentwood Floors Bohemia Collection, a gorgeous wood with large planks and natural details. To ensure smooth transitions between rooms, we incorporated elegant archways that enhanced the home’s architectural flow.

Countertops, Tile, and A Hood that Makes a Statement

The Nero Mist Honed granite countertops on the perimeter add depth and contrast, while the island features a dramatic Antolini Calacatta OMG porcelain slab with mitered edges, elevating the entire look. One of the biggest decisions was designing the kitchen hood to make a statement. Instead of opting for a traditional wood or painted hood, we decided to tile it using Flash Series tile from Arizona Tile. This created a stunning focal point that was cohesive with the full-height backsplash while adding visual interest!

Defining Spaces with Arches

The home originally had small, uninviting doorways leading into the kitchen. Rather than removing walls entirely, we expanded the openings and added beautiful arch details. This impactful change gave the home a sense of grandeur and seamless flow.

A Dreamy Coffee Bar Addition

By slightly adjusting the laundry room’s layout, we were able to carve out space for a stunning coffee bar. Featuring pocket doors for a hidden or open look, this addition brought both functionality and elegance, tying in with the other kitchen elements while also accommodating a second architectural arch leading to the adjacent living space.

Maximizing Laundry Room Functionality

The laundry room was a small space with inefficient storage and an awkward platform for the washer and dryer. We reimagined it by incorporating floating shelves, a hanging bar, and custom niches for baskets, creating a stylish yet practical space that felt both cohesive and functional.

A Bold and Playful Powder Room

The powder room is always a fun place to get creative, and this project was no exception! We added a striking wallpaper, a reeded wall detail, and a gorgeous light fixture to make the space feel special. Functionality was also a priority, so we replaced the pedestal sink with an extended countertop and integrated sink, enhancing both form and function.
