Blending Technology and Comfort in a Bath Remodel Designed for Aging in Place

As a designer at KSI’s Ann Arbor Design Center, one of the greatest compliments I can receive is when a client comes back to work with us on another space in their home. This was the case with a recent bath remodel. The homeowners had previously completed a kitchen project with KSI and were so pleased with the results that they wanted to return to us – and even work with the same trusted contractor – when it was time to update their bathroom.

Inspiration from Lodge Kohler

The homeowners’ vision for their bath remodel was inspired by a stay at Lodge Kohler, where they experienced the functionality and beauty of Kohler’s digital shower systems. They wanted that same upgraded, clean look in their home – marrying comfort, technology, and aging-in-place design so they could enjoy their space for many years to come.

A Modern Bath with Aging-in-Place Features

One of the main goals of the remodel was to make the bathroom more accessible. We widened the door from the bedroom into the bath and reworked plumbing lines in the basement to relocate the tub and toilet drains for better flow and accessibility. Grab bars and a spacious shower create both safety and comfort, ensuring the homeowners can age in place gracefully without sacrificing style.

The highlight of this bath remodel is the Kohler Anthem programmable digital shower system. With this innovation, the homeowners can set personalized profiles, adjusting both water temperature and flow at the touch of a button. We used maple cabinetry in a shaker door style with a warm finish, paired with luxurious Amerock hardware for timeless warmth. Quartz countertops provide durability with elegant veining, with shower doors from Henderson Glass completing the polished, modern look.
