# Where Design Comes to Life: Inside KSI’s Showroom Experience

Published by [Zach Didia](https://blog.ksikitchens.com/author/zach-didia) on Apr 22, 2026 11:15:00 AM

When clients walk into one of our showrooms – including our recently remodeled Birmingham Design Center – my goal isn’t just to show them a kitchen. It’s to help them *see what’s possible*.

Most people come in with a baseline idea. Maybe it’s a white shaker kitchen, something they’ve seen online or in a friend’s home. And while that’s a great starting point, our showroom is designed to push beyond that – to introduce layers of detail, texture, and functionality that truly personalize a space.

## Watch Zach tour our stunning new Birmingham kitchen display!

## Bringing Design Details to Life

One of the biggest advantages of a showroom is the ability to experience design as it comes to life in a real space.

- ![Kitchen island with apothocary drawer-style details](https://blog.ksikitchens.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/2026/04-S-Old-Woodward-1.jpg?width=2534&height=1728&name=04-S-Old-Woodward-1.jpg)
- ![Large crown with accent lighting creating a theater effect over a walnut statement hood](https://blog.ksikitchens.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/2026/16-S-Old-Woodward-13.jpg?width=2592&height=1728&name=16-S-Old-Woodward-13.jpg)
- ![Mix of inset and framed cabinetry in stained and painted finishes flanking a blue range](https://blog.ksikitchens.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/2026/10-S-Old-Woodward-7.jpg?width=2592&height=1728&name=10-S-Old-Woodward-7.jpg)

In our Birmingham remodel, we intentionally incorporated elements that go beyond the expected. You’ll see details like apothecary drawer styling that demonstrates how thoughtful customization can elevate a design. We explore creative applications of crown molding, even using it to create a subtle “theater effect” with integrated lighting that highlights a statement hood and adds ambiance for entertaining.

- ![Mix of cabinetry with shaker and microshaker styles in painted and stained walnut finishes](https://blog.ksikitchens.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/2026/45-S-Old-Woodward-42.jpg?width=2592&height=1728&name=45-S-Old-Woodward-42.jpg)
- ![Mesh inserts in gray painted cabinetry](https://blog.ksikitchens.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/2026/12-S-Old-Woodward-9.jpg?width=2592&height=1728&name=12-S-Old-Woodward-9.jpg)
- ![Antique glass backsplash under walnut statement hood, flanked by gray painted tower cabinetry](https://blog.ksikitchens.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/2026/15-S-Old-Woodward-12.jpg?width=2592&height=1728&name=15-S-Old-Woodward-12.jpg)

We also lean into mixing materials in a way that feels cohesive. For example, pairing walnut with painted cabinetry across different door styles – from a stepped micro shaker to more detailed profiles – allows us to show how contrast can still feel harmonious. Even smaller touches, like mesh cabinet inserts or mirrored backsplashes, introduce texture and lightness so the space never feels heavy.

Every display is intentional. Even when we’re using multiple materials or finishes, we’re always tying them together – whether through repeated tones, patterns like herringbone, or consistent design language throughout the space.

- ![Storage built into cabinet doors](https://blog.ksikitchens.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/2026/39-S-Old-Woodward-36.jpg?width=2592&height=1728&name=39-S-Old-Woodward-36.jpg)

## Showing How a Kitchen Works – Not Just How It Looks

A beautiful kitchen is important – but functionality is what makes it truly livable.

One thing I always say is: clients may not know exactly what they want, but they know it when they see it. That’s why our displays are built to demonstrate real, working solutions.

We showcase features like:

- Pull-out shelves that allow you to use small appliances without lifting them
- Storage built directly into cabinet doors
- Plate pantries that keep everyday items accessible while maintaining a light, open feel
- Hidden drawers and integrated waste solutions to keep surfaces clean and uncluttered
- Panel-ready appliances that disappear seamlessly into cabinetry

- ![Hidden bar area in tower cabinet](https://blog.ksikitchens.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/2026/14-S-Old-Woodward-11.jpg?width=1728&height=2592&name=14-S-Old-Woodward-11.jpg)
- ![Spice storage flanking range](https://blog.ksikitchens.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/2026/47-S-Old-Woodward-44.jpg?width=2592&height=1728&name=47-S-Old-Woodward-44.jpg)

We also create moments of discovery – like transforming a tall cabinet into a hidden bar area for entertaining, or placing spice storage right where you need it most, next to the range.

These are the details that often spark that “I didn’t even know I could do that” moment – and that’s where great design really begins.

## A Seamless, Fully Coordinated Design Experience

One of the biggest advantages of working with KSI is how seamlessly we bring every element of your space together. From cabinetry and appliances to flooring and glass, our designers coordinate it all – so your finished space feels cohesive, intentional, and easy to bring to life.

In our showrooms – and especially in Birmingham – you’ll see that come to life in several ways:

What many clients don’t initially realize is that we can coordinate all of these elements together. Seeing them in one space helps connect the dots – and makes the process feel much more streamlined.
