New Home Features Timeless and Functional Kitchen and Transitional, Cohesive Style Throughout
Cranbrook Custom Homes was collaborating with Shannon Truesdell of Kirkshire Design Group on the interior design of a new home for a client that was looking for a transitional style to give them a timeless look while incorporating beautiful details and finishes. We assisted with the kitchen, bath, and cabinetry design of this home to deliver a cohesive ensemble of beautiful and functional spaces!
Organization
Functionality and organization are critical to a successful kitchen. In this home we were able to include a multitude of storage solutions to make for a super functional space – tiered utensil storage, a spice rack, pull-out pantries, utensil pull-out, waste bin pull-outs, and roll-out trays galore fill this kitchen with practical organization.
For large gatherings, a prep kitchen located just off the main kitchen provides a space to keep the mess out of sight.
Creating Symmetry and Maintaining a Cohesive Aesthetic
Because the kitchen is open to the great room, it was important to the homeowners to keep everything centered and as lined up as possible between these two spaces. We created this layout to make sure that the hood and island stayed centered in the room and aligned with the fireplace in the adjacent great room. Putting together a symmetrical layout like this also allowed them to keep their lighting fixtures centered and lined up along the beautiful ceiling beams, creating a powerful statement.
I love that this home has the perfect mixture of finishes and door styles. We were able to incorporate multiple style selections to keep things intriguing and yet still have a cohesive look overall. The cabinets, countertops, hardware, and tile selections all came together so beautifully to make one stunning space after another throughout the home.
Cabinetry door styles ranged from a flat panel with stepped edges, to shaker style, to slab. The custom paint color on the kitchen cabinets makes for a unique yet timeless space. We are seeing a lot of people trying to get away from stark bright whites and this shade is the perfect neutral to soften that look but still keep things light.
Incorporating Multiple Finishes and On-Trend Blacks
Dual tones continue to be popular in today’s kitchen designs, and it works really well in kitchens like this when you have a larger space to work with. It keeps things from getting stale by incorporating two finishes on the cabinetry as shown here. “Almost black” is a popular look today as well, and this is a perfect example of it –using a black stain on maple wood instead of going with a solid black paint color.
At KSI we often assist home builders with kitchen and bath design and supply cabinetry for their new home builds. As a designer at KSI, I’ve had many opportunities to assist Cranbrook with cabinetry selections in their homes and I was delighted to work with them again on this project with Shannon!
