Making a Difference in Detroit with Life Remodeled

At the KSI Family of Brands, Home is at the heart of everything we do. We work with clients every day to create beautiful, functional spaces where families can thrive. Yet many in our communities struggle with housing security, and so we partner with local organizations to support events, raise funds, and volunteer to help make a difference. Last week, a team of volunteers from KSI Kitchen & Bath and our sister companies Riemer Floors and Cabinets Express participated in the Life Remodeled 6 Day Project to revitalize neighborhoods in Detroit!

The Vision of Life Remodeled - Together With You – has a simple premise. Life Remodeled believes Detroiters have all the talent they need, but many don’t have access to all the opportunities they deserve. Therefore, they repurpose properties into one-stop Opportunity Hubs for entire families to thrive. They fill these iconic buildings with the best and brightest nonprofit organizations who are providing youth programs, workforce development, and human services to tens of thousands of students and community members each year. They help nonprofit tenant partners collaborate and create far greater life transformation together than was previously possible alone.  Their first Opportunity Hub, Durfee Innovation Society (above left), opened in 2017 on Detroit's West Side, while their newest Opportunity Hub, Anchor Detroit (above right), is in the process of launching on the East Side.

This year during the 6 Day Project, volunteer teams came together to clear blight from front yards of vacant properties – clearing debris and cutting down overgrown grass, weeds and brush – to improve the neighborhoods around Anchor Detroit in the Denby neighborhood. Anchor Detroit will offer more than 87,000 square feet, including more than 50,000 square feet that will be leased by Life Remodeled’s nonprofit partners to bring afterschool youth programs, workforce development initiatives and health and wellness resources to the Denby community.
