Last week, a group of KSI Kitchen & Bath designers had the opportunity to attend the highly anticipated Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas. KBIS is the premier conference in the industry with over 40,000 attendees, where manufacturers unveil their latest products and design professionals from around the world gather to discuss the trends and themes shaping kitchens and bathrooms. Not only did KSI Kitchen & Bath gladly accept an award for Most Innovative Showroom in the U.S. for its Rochester Hills, MI location from the National Kitchen & Bath Association, but we also want to share with you some of the themes that caught our attention at KBIS.
One of the most notable trends we observed was the use of textured and patterned wood finishes on cabinetry. Design professionals are incorporating interesting textures, such as vertical grains, reeding, and patterns, to add depth and character to cabinetry. These textured wood finishes provide a unique visual appeal and can help create a warm and inviting atmosphere in any space.
Another trend that stood out was the innovative use of mixed metals in kitchen and bath designs. Designers are experimenting with incorporating different metal finishes for hardware, such as faucets, cabinet handles, and light fixtures. This approach adds a touch of visual interest and contrast to the overall design, creating a unique and personalized look.

Workstation sinks were a highlight at KBIS. Some of these innovative sinks come with built-in accessories like cutting boards, drying racks, and strainers, making them highly functional and practical for everyday use. Other options that are more traditional in nature were large farmstead sinks with room for dishes for your biggest holiday gathering. This trend is gaining popularity among homeowners who value both style and functionality in their kitchen design.

Matte, dark, and brushed finishes for faucets and shower fixtures were another trend that caught our attention. These finishes offer a departure from the traditional shiny chrome, adding a modern and sophisticated touch to any kitchen or bathroom. Not only do these finishes elevate the overall design aesthetic but also offer practical benefits, such as being less prone to fingerprints and water spots.

Wood has made a comeback in kitchen and bath design, but this time in lighter tones. Lighter wood finishes, such as white oak, are increasing in popularity as they bring a sense of warmth and natural beauty to any space. Whether it's in the form of cabinetry, flooring, or accents, lighter wood tones can create a fresh and airy atmosphere, making the kitchen or bathroom feel more inviting and spacious.

While white kitchens and bathrooms have been a long-standing trend, KBIS showcased a broader range of light color tones that are not limited to white. Soft taupes, pale blues, and muted greens were seen as popular choices for cabinetry, walls, and backsplashes. These light color tones add a sense of tranquility and elegance, creating a soothing and timeless environment.

Finally, another captivating trend we observed at KBIS was the use of vibrant colors for accents in kitchens and bathrooms. Designers are embracing the opportunity to infuse pops of color, particularly through elements like bathtubs, appliances, sinks, and backsplashes. Instead of sticking to neutral tones, homeowners can opt for eye-catching blues, greens, yellows, and even rich jewel tones to add personality and create focal points. These colorful accents not only inject energy and excitement, but also allow for personalization and self-expression to create a one-of-a-kind design.
