With panoramic views of the Grand River, the Calder Plaza, the Ford Museum, and the city's exciting new soccer stadium, this downtown Grand Rapids high-rise condo deserved a kitchen and bath that matched the energy outside its windows. The client's vision was clear: create a modern, sophisticated space that felt warm, inviting, and built for everyday living – all while working within the existing footprint.
The result of this comprehensive, thoughtful renovation and installation by our team proves great design isn't always about starting from scratch. Sometimes it's about marrying the existing space to the new upgrades and making every decision count.
The kitchen balances crisp modern lines with rich, natural elements. We utilized Inspira frameless cabinetry in a sophisticated Iron painted finish paired with cherry cabinetry stained in Autumn. Floating stained wood shelves were utilized to introduce warmth and texture, softening the darker cabinetry while providing an ideal space to display everyday pieces and personal décor.
A full-height quartz backsplash that mirrors the counter material showcases dramatic veining throughout the space – creating a seamless, polished look that anchors and elevates the entire kitchen.
One of the project's biggest design challenges became one of its defining features. Because the client wanted to preserve the existing flooring, the cabinet layout needed to remain in the same footprint. At the same time, they envisioned transforming the island from a two-tier design into one expansive, single-level surface—perfect for gathering, entertaining, and enjoying the stunning city views.
This vision would require creativity though.
The island's size exceeded what could be transported in the building's elevator, making a seam unavoidable. Rather than treating it as a compromise, the design team embraced it. By selecting engineered quartz, the countertop could be book-matched, allowing the veining to flow beautifully across the seam in the middle. Instead of disappearing, the seam became a striking design feature that celebrates the natural movement of the material.
The primary bathroom was reimagined to improve both function and comfort. Removing the existing bathtub allowed the shower to expand into a spacious walk-in retreat while creating opportunities for much-needed storage.
The finished space features an enlarged walk-in shower with custom tile, a sleek glass shower enclosure by Henderson Glass, new tile installed by our flooring team, and an expanded vanity creating storage for improved organization.
The result is a bathroom that feels open and luxurious with clean, contemporary finishes that complement the home's modern aesthetic.
Beautiful spaces are rewarding, but the greatest compliment comes from happy clients.
After the renovation was complete, the client welcomed everyone who contributed to the project into their newly transformed home for an open house celebration – a memorable way to thank the entire team and share the finished space with the people who helped bring their vision to life.
