When local fitness expert Jody Trierweiler contacted KSI to update her kitchen, I was delighted for the opportunity to help her create an incredible new space. Read on for the story behind her remodeling journey!
Jody and her husband were ready to update their original 1964 kitchen and finally make it their own. (After all, from healthy snacks to meal planning and entertaining, a health and wellness expert needs an inspirational space to work!) The home is set on an amazing piece of property with views reminiscent of a nature reserve, which they wanted to accentuate and take advantage of during the remodel. The goal was to let in more natural light and update the home into the 21st century.
We enlarged a nine foot window to make it a striking 12 foot wide single pane window, and created an opening from the foyer which previously did not exist. We also added several features and details not present in the original kitchen, including commercial-style appliances, a wet bar, hidden coffee station and an island with seating.
Jody wanted warm white and taupe cabinets. We achieved a compelling look using Merillat Masterpiece cabinetry in their Ganon door style with Canvas and Burmese finishes. We tied them together perfectly with Cambria’s Skara Brae quartz countertops.
The idea for the long wall, opposite the window, was based on an inspiration photo Jody sent me where the ceiling area was paneled to match the cabinetry. I was also able to hide a small storage closet that houses their electrical panel by doing this.
The backsplash took a while to figure out, but the end result became a real focal point in the kitchen. Jody and I had visited several tile suppliers together looking at all the options; when we saw the Walker Zanger Studio Moderne Stone, we both knew it was the one! I ended up having the brass accent tile custom made to add an additional accent. The result was stunning, and this design won 2nd place in the Best Use of Tile category of the 2022 Detroit Design Awards.
Jody and her husband were delighted with the end result - an inspirational kitchen space to match the remarkable view!
