A Kitchen Design to Make Guests Green with Envy

This project started as a design consultation for a white shaker kitchen, but gradually evolved into a lovely blend of painted cabinetry and natural maple that is sure to make my client's guests green with envy!

When we started the design process for this new construction home, we initially developed the kitchen with white shaker cabinets. This was primarily because the client hadn't decided what she wanted yet, but we wanted to start nailing down the layout and pricing. Merillat Masterpiece cabinetry in the Martel door style was our canvas. Shortly after our consultation, the client sent me an inspiration picture with beautiful green cabinets, and indicated she had decided to do the kitchen in Sherwin Williams Pewter Green! She also wanted hutch-style cabinets to be utilized in the kitchen as well. Very on trend!

On a subsequent visit, we finalized the natural maple hood color. Natural maple would go on to be referenced throughout the home, notably with her daughter's floating vanities. The client employed a combination of black and brass fixtures throughout the house with light woods and black and white or marble tile.

Functionality was key for this client, and we didn't skimp anywhere - I made sure there were plenty of roll-out shelves (even in the bathrooms), plus pull-outs and thoughtful, dedicated zones for the way their family uses their space (bar, food storage, cooking/prep, and of course, clean up!).

I was able to manage the sudden change of plans by rearranging the cabinetry, ordering a new end panel, and having the contractor modify one cabinet.  The client appreciated our ability to make it work and keep costs down! In the end, we crafted a unique, beautiful, and functional kitchen design that the client will enjoy for years to come.
