If you enjoy entertaining or hosting large family gatherings, Lassale Homes of Macomb’s new Ranch Model featured at the 2016 Homearama® at Christenbury Creek in Macomb Township could be for you. The overall look of the open floor plan home leans toward Coastal Chic, with its light and airy feeling that gives the visitor a feeling of being in a Miami resort.

KSI Designer Brooke Schall created the cabinetry design for eight areas in the home, including: the kitchen, master bathroom, laundry room, command/mud room, powder room, kids’ bathrooms, lower level bar and bathroom.

“This home is great with its open floor plan. It is perfect for having your family and friends over for holidays or gatherings,” explains Brooke. “We paid close attention to where things were located so that even when there are a lot of people in the home, it still conveys a feeling of openness and light.”

Brooke provides some design insights about two main areas in the home:

Kitchen: We wanted to play with color in the kitchen. A huge trend is to have the perimeter of the kitchen one color (generally painted) and the island another color (usually a stain color). In this home, we chose a white painted perimeter and a navy blue painted island. From there it became a color theme for the rest of the home. Navy blue is a classic color; you can’t go wrong with it. We also took the Merillat Masterpiece cabinetry all the way up to the 10 ft. ceiling by stacking some of the cabinetry. The top glass cabinets are purely for looks, but they really frame in the room nicely.

Basement Bar: We wanted to make the lower level bar a little bit more rustic, like a pub. To accomplish this, we warmed up the colors with an off-white painted cabinetry and true brown based stain for the base cabinets. We played with the cabinetry colors in this space by having the wall cabinets painted and base cabinets stained. It can be really dynamic to mix finishes. The builder also added a rustic wood around the back of the island and the back of the wall as an interesting and unique feature.

For homeowners who are looking to make some inexpensive updates to their own home, Brooke suggests:

The back of the kitchen island in this model is actually a shiplap material that you can find at a local lumber yard. It creates visual interest and is a relatively low cost item. This material was repeated in the master suite and also the lower level.

The 2016 Homearama event features eight custom built homes, all located in a single location, that will be open to the public on weekends, from Sept. 23 through Oct. 9th. Tickets for Homearama 2016, which is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. can be purchased online for $10 per person or at the gate for $12 per person.
